About Me

I’m just a girl from New Jersey, living in Harlem, in what I would like to call a “creative funk”. I work 2 jobs, one with a media company in Brooklyn, the other as an insurance investigator … yes, I know, riveting. No, if you’re wondering, I did not major in insurance investigation in school (no offense to those of you who have). Art. Fine Arts is what I went to school for with a focus in photography, but I have a hand in pretty much everything. Ceramic, kitting, painting, jewelry, drawing, sewing, design, cooking, music… not dance… despite my Latin roots, I’m a horrible dancer. Oh and travel… I LOVE to travel. And yes, I lump it together, because learning about different cultures is not only artistic and enriching … but it’s freak’n awesome.
I never had delusions of grandeur that I would be the next Cindy Sherman or William DeKooning or even the girl on the curb at 34th & 10th with a tarp strewn with sad clown paintings selling her work to tourists.  I’m just a simple girl with left sided brain and need to create. In the mix of trying to pay rent, getting stuck in subways and trying to keep my feet grounded, I feel like I’m losing my creative mind.
So in my little “slump” I’ve deiced to commit myself to a project. A friend of mine, a blogger himself, told me one day “Hey! You like to make things, look at this!” and showed me the New Dress A Day blog.  And for the following months, I became an addicted reader of Marisa Lynch’s awesome 1 dollar a day wardrobe. It even inspired me to go out to the thrift store and take an old, ugly dress and try to make it into something… well, less old and less ugly. And after about ¾ of the way through making my new dress (which still is lying incomplete in a heap on my bed room floor) I said to myself, “Kyle (I hope you get the Boy Meets World reference… ), you should do something like this… but with photos...” And so after a few more months of thinking about it and not doing anything… I’ve decided to jump in. After all, I arguably live in the best city in the world, why not take some photographs?

So armed with my point and shoot, my beat up Cannon Rebel, and a few film cameras, I venture out into overpowering city…. And now I blog….
